Per coloro che sono onesti, e quindi non utilizzano la versione craccata di Unity per poi dire che è originale, ci sono le seguenti novità per la versione Free di Unity 4:
Mecanim [New in 4]
Complete character animation system. Natively integrated with and optimized to run in the Unity Editor. All the tools and workflows needed, including retargeting, Blend Trees and State Machines, to create and build animation assets directly into your game.
Linux [New in 4]

Direct3D 11 Renderer [New in 4]
Higher visual fidelity and faster rendering times for your professional PC games with support for Windows DirectX 11 graphics API.
Low-Level Rendering Access [Questa feature c'è l'aveva solo la versione Pro, ma dalla versione 4 in poi ci sarà anche nella Free]
Need to use custom rendering techniques, bypassing Unity's rendering pipeline? The Graphics and GL classes give you access to the bare metal.
Dynamic Fonts with markup [New in 4]
dynamic fonts for mobile games. Render asian characters at any resolution, and use HTML-like markup to control font sizes, weights and typeface selection
Shuriken: Automatic culling [New in 4]
Shuriken does not even simulate the particle systems it knows aren't visible.
